Florence Sculpture II | May 2026
The second section of the exhibition on postwar sculpture in Florence focuses on the decade between 1968 and 1978. Beyond Constructivist stances and the echoes of the Informal, sculpture evolved into an analytical and structural exploration. Guided by the geometric rigor of artists such as Marcello Guasti and Gabriele Perugini, research shifted toward modular repetition, sequential variation, and the organization of new semiotic paradigms centered around a variety of plastic materials. Accordingly, the exhibition investigates a season in which Florentine sculpture was highly aligned with international avant-gardes, absorbing both pop aesthetics and kinetic influences. What emerges is a tight dialogue with radical research in contemporary architecture and design that redefined the very concepts of volume and space.
