Florence Sculpture I | April 2026

From April 2026, the gallery examines the artistic scene in Florence from the mid-1950s to the mid-1970s, specifically focusing on sculpture. The project is divided into two chronological phases: the first (April–May) investigates the decade from the mid-1950s to the late 1960s, while the second (May–June) documents the experimental shift in sculptural production from the late 1960s through the mid-1970s.

The initial installment highlights the role of Florentine galleries in this period, notably Fiamma Vigo’s Galleria Numero, establishing a formal dialogue between Constructivist sculpture, abstract painting, and Italian industrial design. The selection emphasizes a multidisciplinary approach, featuring furniture by BBPR, Augusto Bozzi, Erberto Carboni, and Ettore Sottsass alongside lighting by Afra and Tobia Scarpa and Gae Aulenti. This narrative is further enriched by the early sculptures of Gabriele Perugini, paintings by Alvaro Monnini, Gualtiero Nativi, and Leonardo Ricci, and ceramics by Guido Gambone and enamels by Sergio Santi for VNF (Vigna Nuova Firenze).
