Vigna Nuova Gallery | April 2021
In April 2021 Simone Begani shows a series of enamels on metal made by Sergio Santi for the Vigna Nuova Gallery. Founded by Danilo, Sergio and Valeria Santi in Florence in 1945, Vigna Nuova was for over twenty years (until the flood of 1966) an extraordinary space for research, production and promotion in the field of visual arts, design, publishing, architecture and crafts. Alongside the works of art and design by national and international artists, Vigna Nuova offered its production of furniture designed by Danilo, often enriched with enamelled components designed by Sergio. The extreme quality of the enamels on copper, in terms of material, composition and design, is found in a wide variety of objects and furnishing accessories signed VNF. In 1948 and 1950, the Vigna Nuova Gallery offers two exhibitions by Florentine abstract artists: ‘Arte d’oggi. 4 pittori espongono’ e “Fine dell’astrattismo”, with works by Vinicio Berti, Bruno Brunetti, Alvaro Monnini, Gualtiero Nativi and Mario Nuti. To retrace this artistic production, Simone Begani shows some works by Mario Nuti (1923-1996) from the forties, alongside paintings by Alvaro Monnini (1922-1987) from the fifties and iron sculptures by Marcello Fantoni (1915-2011) from the early years sixties.
